Among his first words, Ian L. Barnacle says, were “chandelier” and “heating system.” As a child, he drew elaborate floor plans and cityscapes. Barnacle, 28, comes from a multigenerational real estate family, where his professional passions developed organically. His mother founded the brokerage where he’s now the manager of a 55-person office. “I don’t compete with the agents, which has helped me establish trust,” he says. The result is one of the most productive sales offices in Rhode Island. Barnacle has also jumped into the battle for equal marriage rights for gays and lesbians, testifying in the state legislature. “From survivorship rights to estate tax exemptions, gay home owners are adversely affected without marriage equality,” he says.
