For as long as he can remember, Seth Goodman wanted to follow in the footsteps of his paternal grandfather, a broker. He asked his parents to take him to open houses, shadowed agents, and, at 15, got an administrative job with a local brokerage. Goodman—a graduate of Millikin University and winner of the school’s highest award, the Scovill prize for academic achievement, leadership, and service—could very likely have found success in a big city. But Goodman, 24, is happy to be building a successful business in his hometown of Lincoln, Ill., population 14,500. He’s president of the Main Street Lincoln board of directors and is both a pilot and a volunteer for the Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival (yes, he flies hot air balloons). “When you’re doing what you love,” he says, “it feels as though you never have to work a day in your life.”
