5 Cities With the Smallest Home Sizes

Expect to find more cramped corridors in Washington, D.C., which has the smallest homes for sale, according to September data from Realtor.com on the median square footage of homes for sale. The city also has one of the highest median list prices. 

Inman News recently featured the cities with the smallest median square footage based on the Realtor.com’s for-sale property listing data, which includes land, single-family homes, condos, and co-ops. Here are the top five cities with the smallest home for sale, based on the data.  

1. Washington, D.C.
Median house size: 1,000 square feet
Median lot size: 2,375 square feet
Median price: $432,500

2. Hawaii
Median house size: 1,308 square feet
Median lot size: 21,778 square feet
Median price: $575,000

3. Michigan
Median house size: 1,530 square feet
Median lot size: 21,780 square feet
Median price: $118,900

4. Iowa
Median house size: 1,550 square feet
Median lot size: 10,800 square feet
Median price: $135,000

5. Ohio
Median house size: 1,620
Median lot size: 12,023
Median price: $129,900
