How Much Do Real Estate Pros Drive Each Year?
December 1, 2011
Real estate agents may feel like they practically live in their car and there’s good reason why: On average, real estate professionals cumulatively drive 3.6 billion miles in their car a year, according to data from the National Association of REALTORS®.
“You preview (properties) in your car, and then you take your clients, and then, if they want to see (a home) again, you go back – again and again,” Jan Shomaker of SPS Realty, the green committee chair for the Orange County Association of REALTORS®, told The Orange County Register. Shomaker estimates she puts 30,000 to 37,000 miles a year on her Prius each year. “It’s customer service. It’s client service. You want to make it easy for them.”
In citing NAR figures, The Orange County Register says that the median car business expense for a real estate professional in 2010 was $1,680 a year.
“Based on the IRS mileage allowance, that translates into an average of nearly 3,300 miles a year per agent,” according to The Orange County Register.
