The nation’s largest homebuilder, D.R. Horton, announced that it has acquired the homebuilding operations of Breland Homes, which was ranked as the 38th largest builder in the United States by Builder Magazine.

Breland Homes operates in Alabama and along the gulf coast of Mississippi, offering homes that average about 2,200 square feet and cost around $200,000. Its homebuilding assets include about 320 homes in inventory, 1,020 finished lots, and Dr. Horton will also get about 3,700 lots through option contracts from the acquisition, according to a press release by D.R. Horton.

“We are very excited about the expansion of our operations in Mobile and Baldwin County and our entrance into the Huntsville and Mississippi Gulf Coast markets,” says Donald R. Horton, chairman of the board.

D.R. Horton, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, closed on 18,302 homes in the 12-month period ending June 30. It operates in 75 markets among 26 states all across the U.S., offering homes from $90,000 to more than $600,000.
