Real Living, Prudential Franchise Sold

October 30, 2012

Real Living and Prudential Real Estate Relocation Services, franchises under Brookfield Residential Property Services, have reportedly been sold to HomeServices of America Inc.

HomeServices has yet to confirm the acquisition but is expected to release more details Tuesday. HomeServices, a Berkshire Hathaway-owned company based in Minneapolis, is the second largest brokerage in the country, behind Realogy Corp. Many of the 26 brokerages HomeServices already owns across the country are not affiliated with a franchise brand.

Brookfield Residential Property Services, based in Toronto, originally purchased the Real Living Network Services brand three years ago.

Meanwhile, Real Living founder and president Harley Rouda Jr. announced he will return as CEO of Trident Holdings Inc., the parent company of HER Realty. Rouda, along with partners in Cincinnati and Cleveland, founded Real Living in 2002. HER Realty was a brokerage founded by Rouda’s late father, Harley Rouda Sr.

HER has retained the right to use the Real Living trademarks for a year as HomeServices decides the direction it plans to take with the Real Living brand, according to an HER spokesman.
