Leveraging Technology in Real Estate

October 25, 2013

Whether it be mobile tools, social media, or the expanding role technology in the real estate transaction, agents and brokers have been at the cusp of emerging technologies over the past decade.

Back in 2003, the use of blogs, social media, and professional networking sites was virtually nonexistent. But just 10 years later, 64 percent of REALTORS® report having a personal Web site for their real estate business, 12 percent say they have a blog, and 56 percent say they use social media, according to NAR’s 2013 Member Profile.

“Technology has transformed the way REALTORS® do business, but in real estate, high tech doesn’t come at the expense of high touch,” said NAR President Gary Thomas, broker-owner of Evergreen Realty, in Villa Park, Calif. “Despite advances in cell phones, e-mail and Internet capabilities, real estate is still grounded in relationships. Technology allows REALTORS® to better serve their clients by providing them with information and resources quickly and efficiently.”

Last month, REALTOR® Magazine published its “Best of the Web” recommendations, featuring apps, blogs and Web sites real estate agents can use to improve efficiency and generate more business.

Here are five recommended apps that provide real estate business solutions:

For listing presentations
. This isn’t the same old PowerPoint presentation. Prezi is customizable presentation software that helps you tell a story through movie-like transitions rather than slides.

To manage client/customer relations
. Tailor-made for teams, Highrise provides a central location to share client communication, track contractors and vendors, receive updates on what salespeople are working on, schedule meetings and sales calls, and more.

For e-signatures
. There’s a reason millions of contracts have been written and signed by 40 million account holders in 188 countries using DocuSign’s mobile and desktop platforms.

For brain-dumping
. It’s the digital form of the “little yellow notepad” for agents, a place for business creativity in the 21st century.

For content marketing
. Repurpose news articles, blog posts, Facebook posts, tweets, and more into a digital magazine you can share with your contacts.
