How to Take a Good Head Shot
May 22, 2014
There are several factors real estate agents should consider when taking head shots for their websites, social media sites, and other marketing materials. Ron and Alexandra Seigel, managing partners of Napa Consultants, International in California, encourage agents to smile with their eyes to communicate their "warmth, openness, and competence."
They also recommend that agents wear a favorite business outfit that is comfortable and appropriate for their market, use a makeup artist, hire a professional portrait photographer, and avoid dramatic poses. They advise against agents taking photos with their arms crossed, which suggests that they are not approachable; posing with a phone in their ear, which implies that they are overly busy; or posing with animals, spouses, or children, which can be confusing to the viewer.
The Connect Realty Group notes that the right photograph can actually help agents win business and that people believe agents with professional photographs hold themselves to a higher standard. A flattering head shot also ensures a memorable first impression and helps with brand-building.
