NAR Makes Global Connections at MIPIM

March 13, 2015

The National Association of REALTORS® was front and center at this week's global real estate trade show MIPIM, which was held in Cannes, France. MIPIM attracted over 21,000 international property professionals from 93 countries and focused on highlighting commercial investment opportunities around the world.

This year marked NAR's first appearance at the exposition, which sought to make connections with investors from around the world and emphasize the opportunities for global real estate investors to consider investing in the U.S. commercial real estate market.

NAR's 1,200 square-foot NAR-U.S. Pavilion showcased three U.S. real estate markets; Miami, Chicago, and Birmingham, Ala. that are already hotspots for foreign investment.

"This is going to make the U.S.A. the place to be, to invest in even more than it is now," says Cynthia Shelton, a commercial real estate agent with Colliers International from Orlando, Fla., in an interview broadcast from MIPIM on YouTube.

NAR's appearance at the trade show generated buzz not only for opportunities in the U.S. market, but emphasized the growing role for REALTORS® in commercial and global real estate.

"REALTORS® represent the boots on the ground," says Shelton. "We’re hoping to bring more investors to the U.S. to invest in things like office buildings, residential developments, and retail.  When investments happen, cities give credits, get more taxes, and allow us to develop better projects which helps our schools and employers."
