Atlanta area police have arrested a man who allegedly wore a woman's dress and wig and attacked a female real estate professional during a home showing last week.

Atlanta-area real estate companies were placed on alert last week following the attack. Police have arrested 38-year-old Jeffrey Shumate, who faces charges of false imprisonment, battery, and aggravated assault.

According to police reports, a female real estate agent was contacted by a man who was interested in viewing a $6,000 home listing in Lawrenceville, Ga. The man was already at the property when the agent arrived.

"What she did notice about the suspect was he was a male wearing women's clothing and a woman's wig," says Cpl. Michelle Pihera with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The agent allowed the man to view the home alone while she remained outside. After he viewed the home, the man came outside and police say he allegedly began to physically assault the agent on the porch. The agent was able to escape and flag down a motorist who called 911 for help.

"I don't know why specifically this suspect targeted her or if he was just targeting any real estate agent," says Cpl. Pihera.
