Police say the female agent was showing a man a home at about 1:35 p.m. Monday in the Whitfield Estates area in southern Manatee County. According to police reports, the man was yelling to the agent that there was a leak in the bathroom of the home, and when the agent entered the bathroom, he allegedly slammed her up against the wall and tried to "force himself on her." The man reportedly ran away when the agent told him the home owners were due to arrive any moment.
The agent, whose identity has been withheld, told ABC News that she let her guard down and didn't follow proper safety protocols. She said it was the first time she met the man, and she was unable to get a copy of his license.
Police launched a search for the suspect and later arrested Bruce Anthony Kotter, 64. He faces charges of kidnapping and sexual battery. Police say they identified Kotter's blue pickup truck on surveillance images that were recorded from a neighbor's residence.
Another local real estate agent who had shown a property an hour after the incident Monday gave police a description of the client that was similar to the suspect. The agent said she had a "creepy feeling" about the man because he had changed the location for the showing multiple times and did not arrive with his wife as he originally said he would, according to police reports. The agent said she waited in her car while the man looked in the house. He left after he toured the home.
