Amazon Matches Consumers to Agents in New Homebuying Program

July 24, 2019

Home buyers who select a real estate agent through Amazon’s new homebuying program can receive thousands of dollars’ worth of free smart-home tech and home service credits for move-in day. Amazon has partnered with Realogy to launch a new program called TurnKey in 15 cities.

Through the program, buyers will be matched to a Realogy agent. Realogy is a holding company for brands like Coldwell Banker, Century 21, ERA Real Estate, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, ZipRealty, Sotheby’s International Realty, and more.

By participating in the program, home buyers in 15 cities can instantly be connected to a real estate agent in their area. If they close with that selected agent, they’ll receive $1,000 to $5,000 in Amazon home products, services, and other incentives.

“Up until now, there were basically two parts of the journey of a homebuyer: There's the journey of finding, buying and closing on your home, and then there's what has been an entirely separate journey of having to settle into that house and make it a home,” Eric Chesin, senior vice president and head of strategy at Realogy, told Forbes.com. “We recognize, as a homebuyer, that it's all one continuous journey, and so we developed a program with Amazon to be able to serve that homebuyer across the entire spectrum.”

Home buyers can visit Amazon.com/TurnKey to enter their name, phone number, email address, and city. A TurnKey representative then connects with them via text and phone. TurnKey will then connect the buyer live on the call with a selected agent in their area.

TurnKey officials say that all Realogy agents in the program have been vetted and have received special training to be included in the matching service.

For buyers who use the Amazon-matched agent through TurnKey and close on a home, they’ll receive perks based on the price of the home they purchase. For example, if they close on a home in the $150,000 to $399,999 range, they’ll receive a free, expert-installed Echo Dot, Echo Show, and Ring Doorbell. They’ll also receive credits toward Amazon’s unpacking, cleaning, furniture assembly, and additional home services.

For buyers purchasing homes of $400,000 or more, they’ll receive packages valued at $5,000, including six Amazon Echo products, Ring Doorbell, smart locks and lightbulbs, Fire TV technology and Sonos speakers, $1,500 in credits toward Amazon home services, and more. Buyers can spend Amazon credits on moving services, improvement projects, smart-home device setup, and landscaping.

The TurnKey program launched on Tuesday in the following metros: Phoenix; Los Angeles; Sacramento, California; San Francisco; Denver; Tampa and Orlando, Florida; Atlanta; Chicago; Minneapolis; Charlotte, North Carolina; Dallas-Fort Worth; Houston; Seattle; and Washington, D.C. Program officials say they plan to roll out the program to other metros in the future as well.
