States, Cities With the Worst Foreclosure Rates

Foreclosure filings are down 24% from a year ago, but some pockets of the country still are seeing elevated levels, according to a new report from ATTOM Data Solutions, a real estate data firm. Overall, one in every 2,554 U.S. properties received a foreclosure filing in August.
The states with the worst foreclosure rates were:
- Delaware (one in every 1,106 housing units)
- New Jersey (one in every 1,192)
- Maryland (one in every 1,218)
- Illinois (one in every 1,562)
- Florida (one in every 1,633)
On a metro level, in cities with populations of at least 200,000, the areas with the worst foreclosure rates were:
- Trenton, N.J. (one in every 543 housing units)
- Atlantic City, N.J. (one in every 794)
- Fayetteville, N.C. (one in every 920)
- Cleveland (one in every 969)
- Columbia, S.C. (one in every 1,013)
