Cities With the Biggest Bargains on Mansions

December 2, 2019

Finding an “affordable mansion” is possible, according to a new study from realtor.com®’s data team. Researchers analyzed metros across the country to pinpoint where buyers can score affordable homes that are 5,000 square feet or above at a not-so-hefty price. “A mansion in Alabama is going to be very different from a mansion in Beverly Hills,” Michael Corbett, author and host of Extra’s “Mansions and Millionaires,” told realtor.com®. “The difference is how they’re defined.”

In smaller cities, for example, he says a mansion equates to a large room count and big square footage. But in larger cities, such as Los Angeles and New York, a home may be considered a mansion if it has luxury amenities like an indoor spa and wine cellar, Corbett notes.

The South and Midwest may offer better chances of scoring a mansion than more costly coastal areas. Realtor.com® narrowed its rankings to one city per state to ensure geographic diversity. The cities with the biggest bargains on mansions, according to realtor.com®’s analysis, are:

1. Dayton, Ohio

2. Indianapolis

3. Louisville, Ky.
