HousingWire Eyes Media Dominance With REAL Trends Acquisition

December 15, 2020

The industry’s popular REAL Trends 500 and The Thousand brokerage ranking reports will now be coming from HW Media, the publisher of HousingWire. HW Media recently announced it was acquiring the real estate ranking firm REAL Trends.

The acquisition sets up HW Media as a robust real estate publisher, expanding the company’s reach to more than 11 million real estate, mortgage, and fintech professionals each year.

“REAL Trends is an incredibly strategic acquisition for our organization that not only accelerates our presence with real estate agents and brokers across the U.S., but also brings new capabilities to HW—specifically, extreme high-quality rankings data, peer groups, and in-person event experience,” says HW Media CEO Clayton Collins.

HW Media’s portfolio will now include HousingWire, FinLedger, and REAL Trends. The merged brands will continue to publish across digital media brands, host virtual and live events, and distribute content through social media and podcast platforms.

REAL Trends publishes industry reports that rank the performance of the top U.S. brokerage firms. The reports will continue to be published on an annual basis and use the same methodology, HW Media says. HW Media will also be now in charge of REAL Trends annual industry events, like the Gathering of Eagles and the DealMAKERS Conference.

Steve Murray, the current president of REAL Trends, will stay on in a senior advisory role.

“Although I have no intention of retiring, we have been looking for the right partner to take REAL Trends forward,” Murray said in a statement. “As the trusted source of residential real estate information, we wanted a firm with leaders who had the same strong feelings about integrity particularly with regards to our publishing and broker and agent rankings.”
