REALTORS® take the ice bucket challenge.

September 17, 2014

If you haven’t taken the ALS Ice Bucket challenge yourself, you have likely seen videos of celebrities, politicians, and regular folks dumping ice water over their heads to raise awareness—and funds—for ALS medical research. The viral movement has been a colossal success. Between July 29 and August 25, the ALS Association received $80 million in donations, compared with $2.5 million in the same period a year earlier. But did you know about the REALTOR® connection? The challenge was inspired by Pete Frates of Beverly, Mass., who was diagnosed with the disease in 2012. His mother, Nancy, is a team leader with Keller Williams. For her work with ALS, she was nominated for REALTOR® Magazine’s Good Neighbor Awards in 2013. In his own amusing video, NAR President Steve Brown called on REALTORS® to donate to ALS and to submit their ice-bucket video links. Visit for more information and to watch others take the plunge.

Claim Your .REALTOR Domain

Get ready to claim your REALTOR® domain name on the Internet. The new .REALTOR top-level domain will be available to members of the National Association of REALTORS® on Oct. 23.

As more than 1,900 new top-level domains are created on the Internet, including .jobs, .tv, and .camera, the launch of the .REALTOR domain will enable real estate professionals to brand themselves clearly as REALTORS®: can become JohnSmith.REALTOR.

“This is truly an exciting time for NAR members to be on the cutting edge of Internet technology,” says NAR President Steve Brown. ”NAR is one of the first associations to be approved to offer a top-level domain for its membership. When consumers visit a .REALTOR website, they will know that they have reached a source of comprehensive and accurate real estate information as well as someone with unparalleled insight into the local market.”

Aside from members of NAR and the Canadian Real Estate Association, the .REALTOR domain will also be available to state and local REALTOR® associations and their MLSs; affiliated institutes, societies, and councils; and NAR’s strategic business partners.

NAR is offering a free one-year license to the first 500,000 members who register for a .REALTOR domain. For more information, visit about.REALTOR.
