REALTORS® Take to Capitol Hill

Highlights from May's REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in Washington, D.C.

July 15, 2015

Thousands of REALTORS® from across the country traveled to Washington, D.C., in May to meet face-to-face with members of Congress during the REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo. Real estate brokers and agents representing both residential and commercial practices explained to legislators how current and proposed federal laws and regulations affect real estate markets back home.

Among the issues REALTORS® brought to the Hill were the need to ensure that qualified borrowers have access to safe and affordable FHA mortgage financing and the importance of extending mortgage debt cancellation tax relief, which expired Dec. 31. There’s little doubt that REALTORS®’ voices are being heard. As Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) told a delegation of more than 40 REALTORS® from his home state: “It makes a difference that you guys are here.”
