4 Strategies From a Fair Housing Trainer

Follow these guidelines for improving fair housing compliance.

Bonnie Sparks, CRB, CRS®, owner of Bonnie Sparks Seminars, provides training and education for real estate managers and sales associates. She offers these tips on improving fair housing compliance:

  1. Hire a diverse workforce so all potential clients and customers feel comfortable when they visit your office.
  2. Provide adequate training for sales associates, making sure they understand fair housing guidelines so they don't unintentionally discriminate against a protected class.
  3. Have an in-house fair housing specialist review and edit ads and marketing materials.
  4. Offer diversity training to sensitize salespeople to the customs and attitudes of different cultures. Check out NAR's At Home With Diversity program for training resources.
